baba, i think your homeland remembers me

baba, i think your homeland remembers me

Amira Dabboussi

Goldsmiths, University of London

'baba, i think your homeland remembers me' is a compilation of the film, textile and written work developed by Amira Dabboussi after a journey to visit her family in her father's hometown in Tunisia for the first time in almost ten years. The project showcases her wider artistic practice which reflects on religious disconnect, the relationship between memories and grief, and the intricacies of spoken and unspoken languages. This intimate publication examines the experience of simultaneous familiarity and distance that comes as a result of returning to a place cherished more in memory than in reality, a connection which for so long was built upon longing and absence.

This copy, exclusive to Presse Books, also includes an A4 print of a photograph taken of the Great Mosque of Kairouan, one of the oldest mosques in Africa.
