Old Kent Road Botanical

Old Kent Road Botanical is by photographer Max Catterall and poet Jack Emsden.

A collaboration between poetry and photography, this work studies

the act of searching and documenting flora along one of London’s most

polluted roads. The surprisingly varied plant life that exists in the shadows

of the flyover, in the central reservation, and at the edges of a Lidl car

park, become a starting point for a way of looking at the smallest details

of our immediate surroundings. These natural interruptions in our usual

concrete ask questions of how we understand and interact with our lived

environment, what strange beauty persists in all directions.
