Flowers are not to be Picked. Flowers are to be Admired
Flowers are not to be Picked. Flowers are to be Admired
Veronika Čehmánková
As part of the photographic series Flowers are not to be picked. Flowers are to be admired suggests a possible metaphor for people, friends, models* and plants. Veronika Čechmánková juxtaposes the fashion industry, based on her experience as a model, and its exploited participants against the world of flowers. Veronika draws attention to the fact that we arrogantly attribute meanings to nature, and therefore to plants, that suit us without considering the position of the other side. Rather than seeing the aesthetics of flowers as a natural part of the environment, they have become objects of lifestyle and entertainment that, through their pretentiousness, prevent us from rediscovering their fragility, but also our own.
