Channelling Sod and Ley: A Personnel Companion
Channelling Sod and Ley: A Personnel Companion
Richard Lockett and Anna Stenning
The art project and publication engage with ideas about remapping environments through personal sensorial journeys. The book explores the concept of terrain through neurodivergent perceptions and how we tell stories about places that are not about words.
The publication is written in collaboration with Dr Anna Stenning who is a postdoctoral researcher currently based in the Institute for Medical Humanities at Durham University. Her recent research explores the representation of autism in life writing by autistic authors, and what this teaches us about the narrative construction of selfhood.
The exhibition and publication are based around a series of walks I made around sites in East London including the Olympic Park and Beckton Alps. Anna writes: 'art based on walking can centre “imaginative, kinetic, visual, tactile and auditory forms of environmental knowledge and experience” not giving priority to ‘concepts’ and ‘theories’, but being driven by sensory or emotional reward and a longing for connection'.
