This publication is a compilation of the photographic work developed by Javier Barral Ahedo in Lanzarote (Canary Islands, Spain) during the Areté Lanzarote Artistic Residency in July 2023. During the stay, Javier crossed the island from end to end capturing the volcanic landscapes and witnessing the architectural and urban features of the site.
The project Building with Emptiness reflects on the balance between landscape and architecture that the island represents. It is also a celebration of César Manrique’s efforts to preserve the cultural and environmental richness of Lanzarote.
